Josh Porter at Bokardo uncovered some rather startling information about the growth in popularity of so-called ‘Social Networking’ sites such as MySpace, FaceBook, LinkedIn etc.
I dont think there’s any value in deconstructing this for you before I have even gone into the ins and outs of social networking (post coming soon!) so here’s a quick summary of what the above means to small and medium sized businesses operating on the web:
Social Networking refers to a new trend on the web where people are able to sign up to certain web site and interact with each other. its a new way of meeting new people and keeping in touch with old friends.
Social Networking sites can be an extremely effective way of marketing yourself, your company, your products and services, generally raising your profile/brand awareness, and getting more visitors to your website. The adult industry is the biggest industry on the web and has been pretty much from day one. Social Networking may or may not (likely the latter) be overtaken one day, but right now and for the forseaable future it should be a key component of your marketing mix.
Will Social Networking sites overtake google as your number one online marketing channel? Its difficult to say, but one thing is clear - you can no longer ignore Social Networks as a significant part of your marketing mix.
