On the Internet, you’re nobody until you get mentioned by another blogger in one of their posts (not sure whether or not blatant personal abuse counts, though!).
Well today I was mentioned by Internet web guru Brendon Sinclair on his web site so I am officially staking my claim to “somebody” status
Ok, so I paid him - does that make me a bad man?!
In all seriousness, the Putter Butler site that he links to is a site I have been running for a while now. I’m in partnership with my uncle in a the company that manufactures a great golf gift and our online sales were a little flat. Sure, we were selling a few units online but we knew the site had way more potential and the golf market was proving a very tough nut to crack, so we hired a world-remowned web marketing expert to help take us to the next level. The first thing he did was to add a link from his site to the Putter Butler web site.
So, what’s the big deal with that? Are you just vain, Terry?
“Yes, very” to the second question! As for the first question - Search Engines view links to your site as a vote of confidence, and this makes your site appear higher up in the search rankings meaning more people will find you. The Tailored Consulting site is well trusted by Google, so it trusts any ‘votes’ from his site more so than it would from a less trusted site. This means that Google will move the Putter Butler site even further up in the rankings because the link has come from a trusted source.
The lesson here?
Get as many links to your site as you possibly can (Dont forget links from trusted sites are worth way more than links from untrusted/new sites). Its the most important thing to do in order to get found in the search engines. More information on getting links to your site will be coming up in a forthcoming article as part of the SEO Basics series.
